One person has died after a dump truck crashed into a moving train in Jefferson Hills Monday night.

Jefferson Hills fire chief Brian Chalfant said they were called to Route 51 and Worthington Ave. around 11 p.m.

The driver of the dump truck died at the scene.

A portion of Route 51 in Jefferson Hills reopened around 1 p.m. Tuesday after what Chalfant says was a complex cleanup effort.

"There's a specialized environmental company here doing the environmental cleanup," Chalfant said. "There was some special equipment called in to separate the trains. Another locomotive had to come in to pull the train from the back side to separate the cars. It's just been a very extensive operation."

Chalfant said there is no chemical threat to the public.

"There was no releases from the train itself," he said. "There was some fluids from the tractor-trailer truck that leaked. However, the DEP has been here and that's why the specialized company is here doing cleanup."

Investigators are looking into what caused the crash. Chalfant says that includes determining if the lights and signals on the train tracks were functional.

UPMC Childrens Community Pediatrics is closed Tuesday because of the crash.
