This whole Brian Laundrie case has been incredibly strange.
From his disappearance after his fiancée Gabby Petito’s body was found, to the involvement of Dog the Bounty Hunter in the case, to Laundrie’s parents being shady as hell from the beginning, and now… this.
Apparently, Brian’s mom gave the cops the ol’ switcharoo while they were watching the house.
According to CNN, Florida investigators confused Brian Laundrie’s mother with him while monitoring the house, days after Petito’s body was found. Laundrie left the house in his silver Mustang, which cops were watching, but when his MOM returned driving the car, cops thought it was Brian.
North Port Police Department spokesperson Josh Taylor noted:
“They are built kind of similarly… no case is perfect.”
Built similarly? No case is perfect? You had one job…
This discrepancy could make things interesting, as it contradicts the version of events the cops had laid out, to the version that Laundrie’s family attorney told.
Investigators said they saw Brian leave his family home in his Mustang on September 13, but the Mustang returned two days later.
Taylor said:
“We thought that we had seen Brian come back into the home.”
Police now believe it was Brian’s mother, Roberta, who drove the Mustang back, not Brian.
However, the parents told law enforcement they hadn’t seen their son since September 14, then changed the story to September 13, after he said he was going to the Carlton Reserve where his body was later found.
Taylor continued:
“I believe it was his mom, who was wearing a baseball cap. They had returned from the park in that Mustang.
So, who does that, right? Like, if you think your son’s missing since Tuesday, you’re going to bring his car back to the home– so, it didn’t make sense that anyone would do that if he wasn’t there. So, the individual getting out with a baseball cap, we thought that was Brian.”
On the other hand, police had ticketed the car on September 14th at the nature reserve where it was parked, which Laundrie family attorney Steve Bertolino made clear.
Bertolino said:
“Everybody makes mistakes. But Brian and Roberta are not ‘built’ the same.
Moreover, it was (North Port Police) that put the ticket on the Mustang at the park and if they saw Brian leave on Monday in the Mustang, which is news to me, then they should have been watching the Mustang and the park starting on Monday and they would have known it was Chris and Roberta that retrieved the Mustang from the park.
Now to be clear, none of this may have made a difference with respect to Brian’s life but it certainly would have prevented all of these false accusations leveled by so many against Chris and Roberta with respect to ‘hiding’ Brian or otherwise financing an ‘escape.’
Let the record be clear, the Laundries reported Brian did not come home the night he went out for the hike. I actually reported that to the FBI, personally.”
Yep, anyone could mix these two up…
