Oklahoma City storms timeline: When to expect severe weather Tuesday

Staff reports

The Oklahoma City metro will likely see severe storms Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, Oklahoma City is in the "enhanced" category for severe weather risk. The tornado potential for the metro area is low, but large hail and high winds are expected.

The storm is expected to reach the western edge of the Oklahoma City metro around 10 p.m. Tuesday and then reach Oklahoma City around midnight.

October storms in Oklahoma: Another round expected Tuesday

Tuesdays expected storms would be the latest in what has been a stormy October for central Oklahoma. Severe storms in mid-October produced tornadoes, high winds, hail and heavy rain.

Damage from strong winds and hail on Oct. 14 littered parts of southwest Oklahoma City and Del City. The roof was ripped off a strip mall on Sunnylane Road in Del City, while a large portion of a building housing an Oklahoma City business collapsed.

On Oct. 10, a severe storm system brought tornadoes, heavy rain, damaging winds, baseball-sized hail and flash-flooding to towns throughout Oklahoma.

Storms to precede dip in Oklahoma temperatures

Highs in Oklahoma City Tuesday are expected to top out in the upper 70s. After the storm moves through, highs will be in the 60s for the rest of the week.

A brief warm-up is forecast on Tuesday ahead of another cold front, which arrives late Tuesday night. Temperatures return to near-average for the rest of the week.
