2-year-old girl killed, mother seriously injured in LI crash: police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Suffolk County Police said a 2-year-old girl has died after a driver struck her and her mother in Patchogue on Monday.

Authorities said Vilma Graciela Maurad Centeno was pushing her daughter, Nataly Brito Maurad, in a stroller on Medford Avenue when a Ford pickup truck slammed into them at 6:18 p.m.

Both victims were taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where the 2-year-old was pronounced dead, police said.

Maurad Centeno was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital wiith serious injuries.

The driver, identified by authorities as 62-year-old James Maupin Jr., was not injured.

Police said his vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
