Packet-in! Woman is left speechless after finding a whole 'soggy' potato and NO crisps in a bag of lightly salted from Aldi

• Experience left her 'freaked out' over what she had unexpectedly touched 

A woman who hoped to snack on some crisps for lunch was left speechless after opening a packet bought from a local supermarket only to find one whole 'soggy' potato.

Leah, 30, who lives in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, explained that she hadn't noticed any unusual shape or weight when she bought a multi-pack of crisps from Aldi.

It wasn't until she sat down to eat crisps as part of her lunch while working from home that she noticed one of her packets was filled with a single 'soggy' potato.

She recounted her shock to the Metro, saying: 'I opened it and without looking reached into it to feel a smooth cold ball. 

'I was so shocked – not even realising it was a potato – and just completely freaked out at what I'd just touched. All I got with it was one soggy crisp.'

Leah explained that she had been in between meetings when she ran to the kitchen to get a packet of crisps for herself and her boyfriend.

She said her boyfriend was left in hysterics as he blissfully ate his full packet of crisps, while she was left with nothing - wisely chosing not to nibble on the surprise potato. 

The designer shared a photograph of the potato in her crisp packet, which shows that it managed to get slightly salted with the intended flavour before being sealed and shipped to the supermarket.

An Aldi spokesperson said: 'We apologise that, on this occasion, our usual high standards were not met. We would ask the customer to return the product to their local store for a full refund so we can investigate this with our supplier.' 

It is unknown how the potato got into Leah's crisp packet, which comes just days after Dr David Boyce, 38, a physics teacher at Uppingham School in Rutland, claimed to have found a whole potato in his bag of Kettle Chips.   

Posting on Twitter, he wrote: 'My mind went completely blank. At first, I thought 'how is this even in here?' and then I thought 'what a champion, this little guy is a survivor - the little potato that refused to be a crisp.' 

Richard Bootman, 25, also previously claimed to have had the same experience with a bag of Snackrite steak and onion crisps from Aldi.

The architectural designer from Mildenhall, Suffolk, had opened his crisps to the amusement of his colleagues.

He joked to MailOnline saying: 'We couldn't believe it. It is likely I will buy them again - brand doesn't bother me with crisps. But I will feel up the pack before I open them.'
