(October 26, 2021) Who doesn’t like a Chicago steppers’ jam? Well, if you’re one of the lucky ones who does, emerging singer-songwriter Tygressa is “stepping” up to the plate with the Terry “20” Poindexter-produced “Shake It for You,” a song that harbors all the smooth rhythmic soul contained in one of those R. Kelly steppers’ anthems…minus all the paranoiac guilt.

“I had a ton of fun with this song,” Tygressa, a former two-time winner at Amateur Night at the world famous Apollo Theatre, echoes. “Literally while working the day job, the lyrics came to mind.” As the sexy midtempo tune sways across a palette of dreamy synths and punchy beats, the rising songstress yearns to clock out on her 9-to-5 just for a chance to “shake my groove into you just right.”

At the end of the singalong chorus, she declares “as soon as my day is done, I’m coming through.” There’s additional fun towards the back end of the song when Tygressa pours on even more of that steppin’ magic: “Step, step, side to side, bring it on back now dip and slide, turn to the left now to the right, hold your baby real real tight.”

The D.C. native teased us earlier this year with a similar groove on the dancey jazz-funk single “You.” The two tracks work together as a deliciously inseparable pair and easily solidify Tygressa’s meteoric rise in our adult R&B bubble.
