Former Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn has paid tribute to Sinead Tinker exactly two years after her exit, encouraging women to get their smear tests.
The character tragically passed away in 2019 as part of a cervical cancer storyline, and Katie shared a new Instagram post yesterday (October 25) with some pictures from her time on the soap, revealing that women still share their stories with her.
"Two years today we said goodbye to Sinead Tinker," she wrote. "Please ladies, this is my yearly reminder from Sinead to you, GO FOR YOUR SMEARS!
"I'm still so humbled by the whole experience and to this day receive messages from women dealing with cervical cancer who say the storyline helped them, or it pushed them to have their smears, or just women looking for advice on what to do and to share their stories with me…
"It might feel uncomfortable, daunting and even scary – but having met and spoken to dozens of women going through it, I can safely say I'd take a smear test every day of my life if it meant not facing the alternative!"
Katie went on to reveal that she does "miss [her] Coronation Street family loads" and was "so grateful to have been given the opportunity to work on such a vital storyline with an amazing cast and crew".

Back in 2018, a year before her exit, the actress expressed hope that the Sinead storyline would shine a light on the importance of women getting cervical screening tests, saying: "I'm hoping this storyline will bring it back so girls go to their smears."
Since leaving Coronation Street, Katie has gone on to appear as Becky Quentin in Hollyoaks, and competed in the current series of Strictly Come Dancing – though was eliminated a few weeks ago.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
