Former Iowa high school coach faces sexual abuse charges
A former high school track and field coach faces several charges, including kidnapping and sexual abuse.Kameron Marrelle Beets, 29, was arrested Monday in Cedar Rapids. He’s charged with third-degree kidnapping, third-degree sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of a minor, sexual exploitation by a school employee, and invasion of privacy.Beets was a coach for Linn-Mar boys track and field.KCRG reports the Marion Police Department received information that Beets had “solicited inappropriate photographs from two minors.” He’s accused of using his position as owner and operator of B.E.A.S.T. Academy, a high school sports photography company, to reach victims. Police said search warrants were executed and thousands of computer images depicting high school athletes were seized. Investigators are reviewing the photographs to determine if there are other victims.Last month, a Linn County judge issued two protective orders preventing contact between Beets and two unnamed minors.The Linn-Mar School District says it is cooperating with the investigation.
