Renowned Cincinnati chef Jean-Robert de Cavel gets downtown street named after him
Renowned Cincinnati chef Jean-Robert de Cavel now has a street named after him to honor his impact on the city.The city of Cincinnati, along with close friends and family, held a special renaming ceremony on Seventh Street, at the corner of Seventh and Vine streets. The portion of the street will now be known as Jean-Robert de Cavel Way.The street naming ceremony took place on Cavel's 60th birthday.Cavel was Chef de cuisine at the Plaza Athénée in New York before moving to Cincinnati. He then took over the Maisonette — maintaining their five-star rating — when Chef Georges Haidon retired in 1993.He left the Maisonette to open Pigall’s and then moved on to other endeavors including his most personal restaurant: Table. Table was the No. 1 restaurant in Cincinnati for many years before its closure last December.
