Warriors week 1 review/week 2 preview

The first week of the 2021-22 NBA season is in the books, and it was a pretty darn good one for the Golden State Warriors. They went a perfect 3-0, which came after an undefeated preseason.

Will they go 5-0 in the preseason, 82-0 in the regular season, and 16-0 in the postseason? Stay tuned to find out.

Weekly recap

Tuesday: Beat the Los Angeles Lakers 121-114
Thursday: Beat the Los Angeles Clippers 115-113
Sunday: Beat the Sacramento Kings 119-107

The week started off with a bang, when the Dubs were given one of the two Opening Night games, and made a statement with a road win against the Lakers, presumed by most to be favorites in the Western Conference.

They kept it going from there, eking out a dramatic win over the Clippers, and pulling away late against the Kings. A 3-0 week is always a good thing, but it’s extra good when two of those games are on the road, and two of them are against teams that certainly figure to be in the playoffs this year.

Performance of the week

Steph Curry vs. the Clippers: 45 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 16-for-25 shooting, 8-for-13 threes.

Curry welcomed full capacity back to Chase Center in incredible style, with a 25-point first quarter in which he didn’t miss a shot. He then closed the game with two huge go-ahead threes — one inside of two minutes, and one inside of the final minute.

Honorable mention goes to ...

Jordan Poole vs. the Kings: 22 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, 8-for-16 shooting, 2-for-5 threes.

Poole bounced back from a tough game against the Clippers to put on a clinic against Sacramento, scoring from all over the court, taking care of the ball, and having one of the best defensive performances of his career.

Highlight of the week

Normally this will just be one play, but we gotta give it to Curry’s entire first quarter against the Clippers.

The Warriors made it through the tough first few games of the season, and now the schedule gets pretty light for them. There’s a good chance here to really take care of business and start to stack up the wins.

Easiest game of the week

Saturday hosting the Thunder. You could make far worse bets than betting on Oklahoma City to finish with the league’s worst record. The Thunder have Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and then ... umm ... 2021 lottery pick Josh Giddey and Luguentz Dort might be the only other players of note.

Anything less than comfortably beating the Thunder in both matchups this week will be a disappointment, which makes the home game the easiest contest of the week.

Hardest game of the week

Thursday vs. the Grizzlies. With all respect to Memphis — a good team — they win this award by simply not being the Thunder.
