EA has set the Official Release Date to November 19th, 2021. You can pre-order Battlefield 2042 and play it as soon as it gets released. The game is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Gameplay

The Battlefield series developer DICE has developed the game in association with Ripple Effect Studios and Criterion Games.

Unlike its predecessors, Battlefield 2042 does not contain any single-player Campaign mode. It is entirely a cross-platform multiplayer game with four confirmed modes to date. EA and DICE didn't want to divide their dev teams for developing campaign and multiplayer content separately. Instead, they wanted to give the entire effort to a superior multiplayer experience.

EA has confirmed that there'll be bots in the multiplayer to fill the 128 player spaces whenever there is a lack of soldiers. There might be a slight chance that you might get matched with 127 bots on your server.

Plot:

The game is set in the future (2042). Food, clean water, and energy are scarce, and the world is at the edge of destruction due to climatic changes, which peaked in 2040. The Kessler syndrome has caused 70% of orbiting satellites to collide with the Earth, adding to the damage.

The European Union has collapsed, and the failed nations have formed a climate refugee group known as "Non-Patriated" or "No-Pat." When the United States and Russia started a war in 2042, the No-Pats joined both sides to secure their future. Interesting, isn't it?

Setting:

The game has a dynamic environment with harsh weather conditions, which will affect your gameplay. Frequent storms are sweeping across the map. A tornado might randomly form before you and suck everything up with it, or a sandstorm might reduce your visibility.

Either way, your combat experience will be affected by how you adapt to the weather whilst fighting the bad guys.

Specialists and Weapons:

The game currently has ten specialists with their unique skills:

           Assault:

  • Mackay - (Speciality: Grappling Hook; Trait: Nimble)
  • Dozer - (Speciality: SOB-8 Ballistic Shield; Trait: Blast Resistant)
  • Sundance - (Speciality: Smart Explosives; Trait: Wingsuit)

Recon:

  • Rao - (Speciality: Cyber Warfare Suite; Trait: Trojan Network)
  • Paik - (Speciality: EMG-X Scanner; Trait: Threat Perception)
  • Casper - (Speciality: OV-P Recon Drone; Trait: Movement Sensor)

Engineer:

  • Boris - (Speciality: SG-36 Sentry Gun; Trait: Sentry Operator)
  • Irish - (Speciality: Fortification System; Trait: Veteran)

Support:

  • Falck - (Speciality: S21 Syrette Pistol; Trait: Combat Surgeon)
  • Angel - (Speciality: Loadout Crate; Trait: Trauma Specialist)

The specialists don't have any specific weapon and can use every unlocked gun in the game.

NOTE: Some specialists have wingsuits that can be used to ride the tornado. (That's also the first thing I want to try out in the game).

The weaponry includes Assault rifles, Snipers, SMGs, LMGs, Shotguns, DMRs, Pistols, and Explosive Launchers.

The guns can be fully customized with attachments (scopes, barrels, sights, muzzles, magazines, ammo types, and under barrels) according to your play style and the weather of the match.

Apart from these, there are gadgets, futuristic bots, and throwables that can get you some extra kills. A deployable four-legged robotic friend in the game, called the Ranger (you might have noticed in the trailer), will follow and assist you in doing your job.

Game modes:

Battlefield 2042 comes with four multiplayer game modes, with the possibility of more additions in the future.

The four modes are:

1.    Conquest: This is the classic Battlefield mode fans are familiar with. You'll drop into the warzone with 127 other players (except on PS4 and Xbox One, which supports up to 64 players) and fight your way out in the large-scale sandbox. The main objective is to have the highest number of spawn tickets at the end of the match.

2.    Breakthrough: Another intense game mode where two teams will be broken up into large-scale sectors throughout the map. While one team attacks, the other will defend. It seems to be some sort of capture and hold mode, but we'll find that out once the game globally drops.

(Conquest and Breakthrough are together called the All-Out Warfare mode)

3.    Hazard Zone: It is another highly anticipated game mode where a four-man team's objective will be to recover the highest number of data drives throughout the map whilst fighting the other teams. This mode will contain apocalyptic weather elements like tornados, sandstorms, and polar extremes, and it will have a massive impact on the playstyle.

4.    Portal: Last but not the least is the most exciting Portal mode dedicated to the legacy of older Battlefield titles. It is exciting because it's purely a sandbox where players can create modes with maps, soldiers, munitions, and vehicles from many previous battlefield titles. This will create a more dynamic experience for the fanbase. We're eager to see all the creatively crazy modes gamers can make as the game falls in November.

Maps:

The current release will feature 13 maps,

Seven new ones include:

Kaleidoscope (Sogdo, South Korea),

Manifest (Brani Island, Singapore),

Orbital (Kourou, French Guiana),

Discarded (Alang, India),

Renewal (Eastern Desert, Egypt),

Hourglass (Doha, Qatar),

Breakaway (Queen Maud Land, Antarctica), and six remastered from previous titles, which are:

Battle of the Bulge,

El Alamein,

Arica Harbor,

Valparaiso,

Caspian Border,

Noshahr Canals.

So now you might ask whether this game will run on your PC or not. Refer to this list of System Requirements and see for yourself.

Conclusion

The wait is finally coming to an end for you to drop into the largest Battlefield ever as Battlefield 2042 falls on November 19th. The game has the potential to end all the speculations which rose after Battlefield V in 2018. With the next gen content and futuristic touches, EA has created something big for us.

Whether you want to create crazy new modes in the Portal, play co-op with your friends, ride the tornadoes, or camp on top of skyscrapers, it is entirely up to you how you want to enjoy the game.

Welcome to 2042. See you on the Battlefield!
