James Ferentz, Daniel Ekuale revert to Patriots’ practice squad following Week 7 elevations

James Ferentz and Daniel Ekuale reverted to the New England Patriots’ practice squad after serving as standard elevations versus the New York Jets on Sunday, according to the NFL transaction wire.

New England’s 54-13 win at Gillette Stadium marked the third appearance of the season for the offensive lineman and the first for the defensive lineman.

Ferentz, 32, was previously a standard elevation against the Dallas Cowboys and a Covid-19 replacement against the Houston Texans. Under the league’s addendum, a 53-man roster move would now be required for the vested veteran. Ferentz has started twice since the calendar turned to October, playing 118 snaps at left guard. He rotated in to play an additional 16 snaps at right guard on Sunday. Undrafted out of Iowa in 2014, Ferentz made stops with the Texans and Denver Broncos before arriving in Foxborough in 2017.

Ekuale, 27, brought New England’s practice squad to 16 in September after tours with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars. Entering the league as a rookie free agent in 2018, the Washington State product has appeared in 17 games and started five. Ekuale recorded his second career sack heading into halftime against New York, bringing down backup quarterback Mike White for a loss of eight yards. He saw a total of 17 snaps on defense.

The 3-4 Patriots visit the 4-2 Los Angeles Chargers next Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
