WOODSTOCK, N.Y. – Joshua’s Cafe and Restaurant, a 49-year mainstay on Tinker Street, is up for sale, according to Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty.

The asking price? $1,225,000.

Joshua’s, located at 51 Tinker St., has been owned by chef Stefanie Schachter since 1992. The restaurant was founded by her father, Joshua Schachter, who served in the Israeli Army, and Ellen Moss, a school teacher, in 1972. It serves Mediterranean food.

Stefanie Schachter has been a part of the restaurant from its early days. “I was a very inquisitive little girl, and I liked to work when I was little and was always around, helping out, observing and paying attention, and, plus, I love to eat,” Schachter told the Freeman in a 2013 interview. “I was 20 when I started running it,” Schachter said then.

“Stefanie is ready to move on, embracing the passion for travel that has heretofore inspired Joshua’s dishes,” the release said.

The restaurant “is consistently busy, where a reservation is a must on weekends and not a bad idea weekdays, as well,” the release said. “The location (right in the center of Woodstock Village’s shopping district) benefits from high-visibility, significant foot traffic, and a municipal parking lot directly behind.”

Separate entrances to the first and second-floor spaces allow for more than one use, the real estate agency said. The 3,360-square-foot space includes a street-level dining room, fully-equipped kitchen with a walk-in cooler, wait-staff station and restroom. Upstairs, the agency said, is another open space with skylights last used as additional seating and coffee/internet cafe, with a full-service bar, bathroom plus stockroom/prep area and office with wine and liquor storage.

In September, the Center for Photography at Woodstock, at nearby 59 Tinker St., announced that it was selling its building. The Center said it is scheduled to move to Kingston in November.

At the time, Center officials said the decision to sell the two-story building allowed the center to “capitalize on the strong real estate market” and expand into a space that will allow the center to continue to grow. Officials had declined to disclose the property’s selling price but said the asking price for the property was $950,000.
