Producers Discuss Animated Project Star Trek: Prodigy For New Generation [Roundtable Interview]

Many generations grew up with the Star Trek franchise in the past fifty-five years of its existence. In the past few years, many versions of Star Trek spawned for different audiences, including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and even adult animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks. Now Paramount+ and Nickelodean launched the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy to introduce the franchise to future generations.
Here’s the full synopsis of Star Trek: Prodigy:
Developed by Emmy Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters, Ninjago), the CG-animated Star Trek: Prodigy is the first Star Trek series aimed at younger audiences and will follow a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered—a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise—but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents. Star Trek: Prodigy is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios and CBS Studios’ Eye Animation Production.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta participated in a roundtable interview with executive producers Kevin Hageman, Dan Hageman, along with the director and co-executive producer Ben Hibon.
The Kevin and Dan Hagemen team were producers on great animated series, including Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia and Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. They both produced Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. Also, they were writers on the 2014’s hit movie The Lego Movie, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and The Croods: A New Age.
Ben Hibon created in-game sequences for Capcom’s video game Killer7 in 2005 and directed a segment for Tokyo Zombie, a Japanese horror film by Sakichi Sato. In 2007, he directed an animated series inspired by the PS3 flagship videogame Heavenly Sword. David Heyman and David Yates approached him to design a scene in 2010 for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow that is now known as the three-minute-long scene telling the Tale of the Three Brothers. Also, he worked closely with Zack Snyder to create animated shorts for his fantasy feature Sucker Punch.
Star Trek: Prodigy premieres on Thursday, October 28 on Paramount+ with a one-hour premiere episode. New episodes drop weekly on Thursdays for Paramount+ subscribers.
