Health officials are encouraging people over the age of six months to get the flu shot, as this year's flu season is expected to be worse than last year's.

With so much attention on getting vaccinated against COVID-19, health officials say don't forget about your flu shot.

Annette Greer with the Jackson County Health Department says health officials are expecting to see more flu cases, compared to last year.

"Definitely worse than last year., where it was pretty mild. Due to all the social distancing and the masking, and all those things that were in place to prevent COVID also obviously prevent other respiratory diseases such as influenza."

Greer adds those six months and older are strongly encouraged to get their flu shot before the end of October.

To schedule your flu shot you can visit the Health Department's website and make an appointment online by visiting: https://jchdonline.org/index.php/flu
