The USC Trojans just got waxed by Notre Dame 31-16 in Week 8 to drop their record to 3-4 overall. They are still in the process of finding their next head coach after Clay Helton was dismissed in September. On Monday, former USC quarterback Carson Palmer dropped a bombshell on the Dan Patrick Show when he mentioned Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin as a potential option for the gig.

“You've got a wildcard like Mike Tomlin that if Mike Tomlin wants out…and I think at the end of the day there's not a direct ‘that's the guy' everyone is pointing their finger at.”

When asked by Patrick if Tomlin has been discussed by USC as an option Palmer said “I'm sure he has,” about the current Steelers head coach.

It would be a wild move considering Tomlin has been the head coach of the Steelers since 2007 and has never really shown interest in going back to the college game. It'd be one thing for it to be a trendy coach who's bounced around but Tomlin has had his roots in Pittsburgh for 14 years now.

What route USC ends up taking is anyone's guess at this point and there are obvious names that keep getting brought up like James Franklin from Penn State and Matt Campbell from Iowa State. If it were to be Tomlin and it meant leaving the Steelers, it would likely surprise many.

The Steelers are 3-3 this year but have ripped off two straight wins to level things out after a slow start to the year.
