This week’s high school football Top 20 for teams from the San Gabriel Valley, Whittier and Pasadena areas.

FOOTBALL TOP 20

1. Glendora (9-0)

Glendora is going to finish the regular season with a perfect record and win the Citrus 4 League title outright as it shouldn’t have any trouble against winless South Hills (0-9) on Friday. All that is left to find out is what playoff division the Tartans will play in; they appear headed for Division 3, possibly Division 4. The Tartans answered every bell this season and deserve top billing.

2. Bishop Amat (6-3)

The Lancers secured an automatic playoff berth from the Mission League with a victory over Chaminade and they appear to be a lock for the Division 2 playoffs. They take on Serra for sole possession of second place, and a home game in the first round of the playoff could come with a victory. It was nice to see its defense show up after a poor performance a week earlier against Alemany.

3. La Serna (7-2)

The Lancers punished previously undefeated El Rancho, 42-7, to win the Del Rio League title and increased their winning streak to seven after losing the first two games of the season. They’re hitting on all cylinders with the playoffs around the corner.

4. St. Francis (6-2)

The Golden Knights played as well as possible on defense in a 6-3 loss to Loyola, but that setback likely cost them the Angelus League title. The good news is the Golden Knights fared well against a good team and can lock up second place this week against Crespi. And who knows, if Loyola loses to St. Paul, it would force a three-way tie for the title.

5. St. Paul (7-1)

By defeating Crespi 52-35, the Swordsmen’s Angelus League title hopes are still alive. If they beat Loyola, they could finish in a two- or three-way tie for the league title. Lot of possibilities, but the Swordsmen needed the offensive outburst after a futile offensive showing in their previous game against St. Francis.

6. Bonita (7-2)

Ayala handled Bonita, winning 35-14, and now the Bearcats will play for sole possession of second place in the Mountain West League against Alta Loma, a winner over Charter Oak last week. Although both teams are trying to win the league’s automatic playoff berth, it appears both teams have good enough records and Calpreps ratings to get in.

7. Pasadena (7-2)

Pasadena is 4-0 in the Pacific League and the Bulldogs feel like the league title runs through them. They beat rival Muir soundly when the teams met in the spring at the Rose Bowl. They look like the favorite on paper, but anything goes in a rivalry game.

8. Monrovia (9-0)

The Wildcats have dominated everyone in the Rio Hondo League and can win the title outright against South Pasadena on Thursday. They have played so well they might have played themselves into a division they regret, but no doubt they’re one of the area’s best.

9. Muir (7-1)

The Mustangs boast three shutouts and held two other teams to six points or less. They are 4-0 in the Pacific League and will play rival Pasadena for the title in the Turkey Tussle. The Mustangs had Covid issues at the beginning of the season, but they’re playing as well as anyone at the moment.

10. Arroyo (9-0)

It has been an amazing regular season for the Knights, who have shut out four of their last five opponents, and in the other game gave up just six points. They are winning by a 42-point margin, so even if you think the Mission Valley League is down this season, that is playing dominant football.
