On Monday night, two very different teams meet in the national capital of the Great White North, as the young and exuberant Ottawa Senators prepare to host the veteran-filled lineup of the Washington Capitals.
The Capitals are having a solid start to their 2021-22 season, despite the expectations of many. An overtime loss to the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning in their second game of the season is the only mark on their record so far. Three of their wins have come by at least three goals or more, including a big 6-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche, whom many think are a favorite to win it all this season. Washington is just a couple of days removed from an afternoon clash with the Calgary Flames, falling overtime.
The Sens have shown they are going to be a team to keep an eye on. With talented forwards such as Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stützle and Drake Batherson, along with Thomas Chabot leading the blue line, Ottawa certainly has a bright future. They have shown some of that early on in the season, as they are 2-3 through the first couple of weeks of the season, with wins coming against their provicincial rivals in the Toronto Maple Leafs and the revamped Dallas Stars. The Sens are coming off a Saturday matinee matchup of their own against the New York Rangers, where they fell 3-2.
