Mizzou professor announces plan to run for mayor
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A University of Missouri adjunct instructor has announced her plan to run for mayor of Columbia.
Tanya Heath is expected to file for candidacy in next year's election.
According to a press release from her campaign, Heath is a Hickman High School and University of Missouri graduate.
The press release said she has a background in advertising, which includes being the Director of Advertising for Mizzou Magazine, a freelance writer, and a professor for strategic communication at the MU School of Journalism.
Heath is also a wellness practitioner and is a distributor of health products, according to the press release.
She said her goal is to talk to as many residents in as many neighborhoods as possible to better understand the concerns and suggestions of Columbia residents.
Candidates running for mayor will need to collect at least 100 signatures to get on the ballot.
The first day to file for candidacy is Tuesday. Candidates will have until 5 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2022, to file their paperwork.
Election day is April 5, 2022.
