San Diego is expected to get about 0.25 inches of rain by early Tuesday from the remnants of a monster storm that produced one of the wettest days in the history of San Francisco.

Inland San Diego County could receive twice as much precipitation, and the system will generate waves up to 10 feet high on Tuesday south of Mission Beach, according to the National Weather Service.

The tail of the atmospheric river storm that clobbered the Bay area began spreading across greater San Diego on Monday afternoon and was generating 25 mph to 30 mph winds at the coast from Camp Pendleton to San Diego at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Mount Laguna had gusts to 41 mph.

Around 4:45 p.m., power was knocked out for more than 3,280 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in the areas of Ocean Beach, Sunset Cliffs and Point Loma. SDG&E said at least some of the outages were due to weather. Most customers had their power restored by 8:45 p.m.

“This whole thing will move out by early Tuesday and skies will go from partly cloudy to clear,” said Adam Roser, a weather service forecaster.

But the weather will remain on the cool side Tuesday. The daytime high in San Diego will be 68 — which is six degrees below average.

Greater San Diego will then experience a warming trend and the region will remain dry at least through Halloween on Sunday.

The storm represents the tale of two cities.

The system developed into a major atmospheric river that peaked on Sunday when it dropped 4.02 inches of rain in downtown San Francisco.

Sfgate.com reported that the total was the highest on record for October 24 and one of the biggest downpours to hit the city since the Gold Rush.

The storm lost strength as it sagged to the south.

By comparison, San Diego was expected to receive barely a trace of rain.
