The Memphis Grizzlies may have bowed out to the Los Angeles Lakers in a 121-118 squeaker, but Ja Morant continues to draw praise for his impressive start to the 2021-22 regular season.
Morant was virtually unstoppable on Sunday night, finishing the game with 40 points and 10 assists to become the first player in Grizzlies history to record such numbers. In spite of his absurd stats, the spitfire point guard commented on the lack of respect towards the Grizzlies since he was drafted in 2019.
“I don’t care what I did in that game. I missed the free throw. That’s the only thing on my mind right now.” – Ja Morant.
Also said: “I feel like we’ve been making statements since I’ve been drafted here,” and that he still feels like the Grizzlies aren’t respected enough.

Morant's Grizzlies career is still in its infant years, so to speak. The expectations weren't high in his rookie campaign, but their playoff appearance last season came as a pleasant surprise to many.
The Western Conference has always been teeming with talent, making the Grizzlies' first-round appearance in the 2021 playoffs all the more impressive. Morant also made a good account of himself in five games against the top-seeded Utah Jazz, averaging 30.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per contest.
Such performance drew huge expectations for the Grizzlies playmaker in his third year. After three games, the results have been tremendous. Memphis holds a 2-1 record, as of writing, with Morant holding ridiculous averages of 35.0 points and 8.0 assists on 58% shooting from the field and 44.4% from the 3-point area.
The Grizzlies will go as far as Ja Morant takes them. That's a fact. It may be too early, but the Grind City squad is turning out to be one of the most exciting teams to watch this season.
