The Ford F-150 Lightning has managed to gather 150,000 reservations and counting. This is extremely impressive for the carmaker's first-ever all-electric truck. Ford recently announced an additional $250 million investment and 450 additional jobs at the Michigan production plant in preparation for increased output. The goal is to reach 80,000 units annually by 2024. We also recently reported that the original October 26 online ordering bank will begin on October 26. A CarBuzz reader was then told by their local Ford dealer those orders may not get underway until 2022. So, what's happening here?

Another report from the Lightning Owners fan forum has arrived claiming Ford's order banks will now open sometime in December.

A precise day was not provided. The information appears to be official because it's supposedly a screenshot taken by a customer. Furthermore, customer emails from the automaker also state the same order banks delay. But the good news is that F-150 Lightning deliveries remain firmly on schedule for spring 2022.

It's important to point out those 150,000 reservations do not translate into 150,000 orders. They are simply $100 refundable placeholders. It's up to Ford dealers to turn those reservations into actual orders. Bear in mind that reserving a spot in line will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those who confirm their orders and final specifications first will get their trucks first. Simple as that. In all likelihood, 2022 model year production will only be around 20,000 units, if not slightly less. For 2023, that figure is expected to increase to at least 50,000, and by 2024 80,000, as noted above.

Production will take place at the Blue Oval's brand new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan. Prices will begin at a very reasonable $39,974 while a fully-loaded Platinum trim will surpass $90,000. Neither of these amounts takes into account federal and state tax incentives.
