OPINION: Garic: LSU's Ed Orgeron 'charade' is 'insulting to fans … embarrassing' for program

LSU lost to Ole Miss 31-17 in Oxford, but I won’t be giving you one stat relative to the outcome.

I'm just going to tell you exactly how I feel about the present and future of this program, because I have a lot to say. This is what LSU fans have to deal with every week. This is the immediate future for LSU fans.

What you listened to or watched on Saturday is what we are going to get for the rest of the year.

The Tigers clearly won last week in spite of Ed Orgeron. This week his players clearly quit on him. LSU does not even look like they belong in the SEC right now. The players look disinterested.

The program had to give Coach O his buyout last Sunday. The administration wanted him to finish the year, after all he is a great interim head coach. He has a ton of experience doing that job. It made sense to a degree.

However, this charade is insulting to LSU fans, and frankly embarrassing to the school. Coach O will hit us with the typical coach speak “Regroup, I got to coach better. I won’t blink” etc., etc.

But Coach O is the reason this team is distracted and disinterested.

Here is a great illustration of why this team is distracted: Players had to dispel rumors via twitter this week about their coach’s reported behavior with girlfriends at practice ahead of the game.

The players shot those reports down. The players did the dirty work of the administration and Coach O. That is a massive distraction. Think about that for a second. LSU has a football crisis and a PR crisis. The administration did not have the gumption to address it, instead the players addressed reports about their head coach. Pass-the-buck leadership is failed leadership.

The administration at LSU is void of leadership when 20- and 22-year-old young men are addressing a situation that the administration ignored.

Scott Woodward and Coach O missed and missed badly last Sunday not owning those reports and addressing them.

The athletic director and coach should have gotten out front and said the reports were either true or not true.

LSU fans, my concern is every game Coach O remains on the sideline sets this program back further and further. The one hope I have right now is that Scott Woodward is here for this moment in time. The choice of LSU's next head coach is critical, and Woodward's the man for the job. I just say this, the sooner the better.

Their play and coaching is offensive to college football and cancel culture should come calling. How is this any fun? I know LSU is down a ton of starters. I will acknowledge that. However that is the least of the problems for this team.

Ole Miss had not beaten the Tigers in 5 years. Tennessee and Tulane gave the Rebels better games this season.

This is not all on Coach O ... wait a minute, yes it is. I mean he recruited the talent. He hired the coaches. He is the common denominator.

The more games the Tigers play this season the more damage it will do to the program. The national championship win was 21 months ago, but feels like it was a lifetime ago. Alabama, Arkansas and Texas A&M remain on the schedule.

LSU is out of playoff contention by a mile and we are not even to Halloween yet! There is no reason for hope. Maybe if this happens then maybe LSU can get a good bowl game or a shot at the post-season. They have no hope and no lifeline to save them.

Coach O, it is time to blink. Selfishly your legacy tarnished with every game you are on the sideline for LSU.

As humans, we tend to remember the bad over the good, the awful over greatness. Right now, I feel like the championship he won had a lot to do with luck. I know it was not. It just feels that way.

Coach O needs to negotiate yet another deal and resign, if for no other reason than he does genuinely have love of the program. If he loves LSU, as he says, he needs to step down. He will not if it means he does not get his buyout money.

What a shame. Local boy in Coach O did good, now doing significant damage to the local favorite football program. By keeping Coach O on as the coach even though they announced a mutual split the administration asked the players and coaches to go down with the ship and ignore the lifeboats.

The Captain (Coach O) not the passengers (players and assistant coaches) is required to go down with the sinking ship.

The players and assistants are watching the Titanic go down from the lifeboats.
