Britney SpearsCrossroads is her only feature film. It was a landmark in the singer’s extraordinary career. But where can you watch the 2002 romantic comedy? Here’s where you can find it and how you can watch the early 2000s movie.

‘Crossroads’ stars several up-and-coming stars alongside Britney Spears

The movie starred an ensemble cast of experienced names and up-and-coming actors. Along with Spears as teen Lucy Wagner, Dan Aykroyd, Kim Cattrall, and Beverly Johnson appeared in the film.

Additionally, Justin Long, Zoe Saldana, Taryn Manning, and Anson Mount appeared as Lucy’s friends and peers.

Tamra Davis directed Crossroads, and the legendary Shonda Rhimes wrote the screenplay.

The movie suffered from mixed reviews

The coming-of-age movie was a critical bomb, scoring only 14% on review conglomerate Rotten Tomatoes. Many critics were famously harsh on the young singer. “I went to Crossroads expecting a glitzy bimbofest and got the bimbos but not the fest,” wrote the late critic Roger Ebert in a particularly rough review published in the Chicago Sun-Times. “Britney Spears’ feature debut is curiously low-key and even sad.”

However, it’s a fan favorite that many love to watch for nostalgia’s sake. And a few critics defended both Britney and Crossroads in their reviews. Moreover, some accused critics of trashing the movie simply because it starred Britney Spears.

“I can see the hate mail now,” wrote Sarah Michelle Fetters for MovieFreak.com. “If this film starred anyone else, I’d be safe. Throw a polarizing superstar like Britney Spears into the mix, however, and all bets are off.”

To sum up, the movie endures despite criticism that might have buried the film of any less-famous pop star.

Britney Spears’ ‘Crossroads’ is notoriously difficult to stream

We searched far and wide, convinced we’d be able to find a streaming platform that offered purchase or rental of Britney Spears’ Crossroads. But we were stunned to discover that it simply isn’t available to stream.

Even a previously available purchase via Vudu has been removed from the platform. Moreover, given the embattled singer’s enormous popularity and cultural relevance, it was shocking to see that the movie is so difficult to find. There is an option to rent the movie on Dish for $3.99 — if you have the service.

However, that doesn’t mean if you’re Dish-free that you can’t watch it. Only that it will take a little planning ahead. You can purchase a Widescreen Special Collector’s Edition DVD set via Amazon. You can also find used copies of the movie via eBay.

To sum up, Crossroads is about friendship, which makes it an excellent choice for a nostalgic movie night with your girlfriends.

“I’ve been really, really blessed with my friendships that I have right now,” Britney Spears said in a 2002 interview published in Hollywood.com. “I have three girlfriends–that’s kind of what inspired me to even do the movie–I still have my girlfriends that I grew up with. We went to day care together…we just feel comfortable with each other. We’re honest, we’re total goofs….Honestly, I thought everyone had that, I really did, until I’ve seen [otherwise]. I wanted girls to go out and see the movie and be inspired by that and to want that.”
