A 53-year-old Massachusetts man died Saturday while hiking in New Hampshire, according to officials.

Authorities from the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department were notified Saturday around 8 a.m. that a hiker was receiving CPR on the Lonesome Lake Trail in Franconia.

The hiker, who is from Beverly, was with a partner when he “suddenly collapsed” on the trail, officials said.

The hikers were roughly one mile from the trailhead, according to the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department.

“His hiking partner immediately called out for help. Two EMTs happened to be hiking on the same trail and immediately started performing CPR,” authorities said.

The EMTs were unable to revive the hiker. The man’s name was not released. Authorities were still notifying the man’s family.
