INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police say one person has died and another was seriously injured after a crash on I-70 Sunday morning near Plainfield.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-70 near State Road 267 around 10 a.m.

As of 4 p.m. Sunday, all westbound lanes remain closed and one eastbound lane is open.

Troopers say the driver of an eastbound semi-tractor trailer lost control in a construction cross-over, jackknifed and crashed through the concrete barrier wall. A westbound semi-tractor trailer then struck the jackknifed semi head-on.

A trailer being pulled by a third semi-tractor received minor damage and a passenger car got caught up in the wreckage.

The driver of one of the semis died at the scene, another was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the passenger car had minor injuries.

Troopers say the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, but there was heavy rain in the area at the time that could have contributed.
