THE HUNGER Is A Great 2+ Player Board Game Review

From Origames and Renegade Game Studios, The Hunger is one of those rare games that actually works as well with only two players as it does with more. In the game, you are a vampire out to hunt for the night. You can hunt down people, familiars, or cards to give you more vampire powers. You travel through the area, chomping down on as many people as you can. But you need to be careful, you only have 15 turns to hunt and return to the safety of your castle.

This is a deck building type game and while humans are essentially what give you points, they also don’t allow you to do anything on your turn, so you need to balance how many people are in your deck versus powers and movement cards.

The first time I played I definitely got too greedy and didn’t make it back to the castle in time and lost. The second go around I tried to be more careful, but still just barely made it back to the safe zone and got points deducted. The game itself is really high quality with a double sided board for playing on Rookie or Elder mode.

The artwork is beautiful too, even though every lady character has an impossibly small waist. It’s a fairly simple game to learn that has managed to have a fair bit of strategy involved. The best part of the game is it played just as well with two people as it did with more.

This is an important quality if you have a small family or if you just don’t have many people to play board games with. My only real hang up is every so often a rule is a little unclear, though it’s usually not so unclear that you can’t easily make a quick ruling at the table.

Overall, I give this game an 8/10, not perfect but pretty darn good.
