NY Giants 3 keys to pulling off an upset over Carolina Panthers

With the NY Giants facing a 1-5 start to the season, alongside countless injuries, New York faces a tough opponent in the Panthers Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers are 3-3, but their record doesn’t tell the whole story.

Carolina is a young, up and coming team that is full of young talent on both sides of the ball. The Giants are going to have a tough time competing with all the injuries, but there is still a chance.

Here are 3 keys for the NY Giants to pull an upset against the Panthers:

Number 1: Protect Daniel Jones

This is easier said than done.

With multiple injuries to the offensive line, alongside an elite Panthers pass rush, the NY Giants need to do all they can to protect Daniel Jones.

We have seen what Jones can do when he has time to throw the ball, he has the ability to carve up opposing defenses with ease. However, with Andrew Thomas hitting the IR this week, the NY Giants are going to have a tough time protecting Jones.

If Daniel Jones is given time to throw he can easily make any throw on the field.

The only problem is, he doesn’t always have time, especially with the current state of the offensive line.

Nate Solder is easily having the worst year of his career, giving up the 5th most pressures among offensive tackles at 21 and surrendering 3 sacks. Alongside poor play by the rest of the offensive lineman, Jones could be in some real trouble.

Last week against the Rams the Giants offensive line surrendered 16 pressures, 10 QB Hurries, seven QB hits, and five sacks.

That is absolutely unacceptable, especially when you consider that NY Giants GM Dave Gettleman has been saying for years that he wants to fix this offensive line.

The only bright spot on the offensive line this week is right guard Will Hernandez, who last week against the Rams only surrendered one pressure in 58 pass blocking snaps. On the year he has only allowed 9 pressures and has yet to surrender a sack. He looks to be the only starting caliber lineman now that Andrew Thomas is out.
