Livramento, Broja both score for Southampton as Chelsea Academy shines

Chelsea weren’t the only Premier League team directly reaping the benefits of the Chelsea Academy yesterday — Hudson-Odoi, James, and Mount all scoring for us (the latter three times in fact) — with both of Southampton’s goals in their 2-2 draw with Burnley coming courtesy of Cobham Blues.

First, last year’s Academy Player of the Year and current Buyback Army hopeful Valentino Livramento got his first ever Premier League goal to bring Saints level, then, just a few minutes later, current Loan Army hopeful Armando Broja got his second ever Premier League goal to give Saints the lead. Unfortunately, unlike his first goal for Saints the other day, this one was not enough for all three points, as Burnley pulled one back to share the points at St Mary’s.

Still, well done to both Tino and Armando!

Elsewhere, Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher was involved in yet another draw for Crystal Palace as well. Palace thought they had it won against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but Christian Benteke’s late winner was chalked off on video review. That’s six draws in nine games for Palace, most in the league. And five draws for Southampton, second most in the league — so they both remain just barely above the relegation zone.

At the other end of the table, Chelsea have a two-point lead at the top at the start of Sunday, which will feature Liverpool taking on Manchester United. Should Liverpool win, as expected, they’d close back up to within just one point of us, and would create a six-point gap for United to third (Manchester City) already.
