A Port Washington man died Friday from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle traffic crash earlier in the day, according to state troopers with the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

John J. Myers, 42, was flown by Air Med helicopter to Akron General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, said Patrol Sgt. Clinton Armstrong.

The crash occurred in Clay Township, and Patrol officers continue to investigate the single-car crash on Tuscarawas County Road 22 (Frys Valley Road) Friday at 12:30 p.m.

Troopers said Myers was driving eastbound on a straight stretch of the road when his car went off the left side of the road and struck a ditch. Myers was ejected as the 1993 Lexus SC two-door car overturned at least once, coming to rest on its tires.

He was not wearing a safety belt, and it’s not yet known if alcohol and/or drug use was involved, Armstrong added.

Assisting state troopers at the scene were Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s deputies, Arrowhead Joint Fire Department members, and Finlayson Towing personnel.
