LAKELAND, Fla. - Despite scoring first, the USCB women's soccer team fell to No. T9 (tied for ninth) Southeastern, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at the SEU Soccer Field.
Inside The Box Score
Madeline Matusik - one goal, one shot
Mari Kalvatn - one assist, one shot, one shot on goal
Mariah Ruckdeschel - 90 minutes, five saves
How It Happened
After fending off three Fire scoring chances in the first six minutes, USCB took advantage of its first scoring chance in the 11th frame. Kalvatn and Matusik worked up the field passing the ball strategically back-and-forth. After the SEU goalkeeper was out of position, Matusik connected with a shot that found the middle of the goal to give the Sand Sharks the 1-0 advantage.
The lead disappeared nine minutes later when Hanna Ryberg knotted the game-tying goal off a header.
The Fire had a couple of chances at net, but they eventually found the twine in the 29th minute to take the 2-1 lead.
After a missed scoring chance in the 31st minute for USCB, SEU again answered with another goal in the 36th minute.
After halftime, USCB had two more scoring opportunities in the first 19 minutes. Bye-Andersen and Kalvatn put shots on goal, but Bye-Andersen's attempt sailed high, while Kalvatn's shot on goal was saved.
To put away the game, the Fire tallied goals in the 82nd and 90th minutes to claim the 5-1 victory.
