CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The daughter of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson has died.

Janese Jackson passed away recently, two anonymous sources confirmed to 19 News on Saturday.

The community took to social media to extend condolences to the Jackson family late Saturday.

It’s the second tragedy to strike the Jackson family in just over a month.

Janese Jackson lost her son, Frank Q. Jackson, to a fatal shooting on Sept. 19.

“The Central Community has lost a leader whose heart was broken after losing her son to Gun Violence,” wrote Richard Starr, a Cleveland city council candidate for Ward 5. “I spoke with Niecy a week in a half ago when I knocked on her door to check on her to tell her that I love her.”

“Niecy looked me in my eyes and said, ‘Rich, I’m crushed. They took my baby from me; I can’t do this.’ Sadly, Niecy had to bury her son, and now her parents have to bury their daughter. Niecy’s work over the years as a cheerleader coach and as a motivator was inspirational. We all will miss Janese “Niecy” Jackson. My condolences go out to the Jackson family.”

The mayor’s grandson was fatally shot at the Heritage View Homes housing complex.

If you have any information regarding the unsolved murder of Frank Q. Jackson, please contact Cleveland police, Crime Stoppers at 216-252-7463 or submit a tip online.
