Up-and-coming UFC prospects, doubt Alex Caceres at your own risks.

Caceres spoiled the party of yet another a highly-touted featherweight on Saturday by snatching a come-from-behind victory over Seungwoo Choi at UFC Vegas 41. After nearly getting knocked out in the opening frame, Caceres turned the tide with a slick rear-naked choke submission that forced Choi to tap out at 3:31 of Round 2.

“I didn’t know what happened, honestly,” Caceres said. “He hit me really hard, I went to the floor, I saw him trying to climb up on top of me, then all of a sudden I felt another shot. I didn’t know what it was, and yeah, I flashed — I’m like, ‘Oh crap, this might be it.’ But then I regained my composure almost right away and I was ready to go again.”

Choi (10-4) did indeed start out on fire, dropping Caceres (19-12) with a piston-like counter of a right hand in the early stages of the opening round, then jumping onto Caceres with a slew of follow-up shots. Choi appeared to be on the verge of finishing the fight, only to then blast his American foe in the face with an illegal knee while Caceres was grounded. The illegal shot earned Choi a point deduction from referee Jason Herzog and gave Caceres enough time to clear his cobwebs and survive until the end of the round.

But the 25-fight UFC veteran Caceres was undaunted. In a gorgeous sequence midway through the second round, “Bruce Leeroy” scrambled aboard Choi’s back, locked in a body triangle on his upright foe, then slithered in the fight-ending submission to complete his comeback.

With Saturday’s performance, Caceres has now won five consecutive fights — the longest winning streak of his 10-year UFC career.
