ANN ARBOR – Michigan’s muddiest tradition is back and better than ever.

The Michigan Mudbowl, a University of Michigan football tradition for nine decades, returned in 2021, with the fraternity-led charity event kicking off at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, before the Wolverines hosted Northwestern at noon.

The event - postponed due to COVID-19 in 2020 for only the second time since its inception - took place at the corner of Washtenaw and South University avenues next to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house. Phi Gamma Delta - better known as Fiji - faced off against SAE on the muddy field.

For the 2021 event, the nonprofit Michigan Mudbowl Club worked with fraternities to raise a record $73,500 for the Charles Woodson Fund at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, with SAE alone raising $17,566 - the most of any fraternity.

Fiji defeated SAE 18-6 to claim bragging rights as the victors of the 87th edition of the event.
