West Ham have 'got a bit to go yet' before they overtake Tottenham and become one of the 'Big Six', insists David Moyes... with Hammers able to leapfrog London rivals in Sunday's meeting

• They face each other at the London Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League 
• But David Moyes insists his side have a lot to prove yet despite decent form

West Ham are on the right path but need to keep proving themselves before they can say they've overtaken Tottenham and become one of the Premier League's Big Six, according to manager David Moyes.

It is now six months since Spurs played their part in the European Super League fiasco, signing up for what would have been a private members' club between them and 11 other sides. 

On Thursday, West Ham were winning in the Europa League while Tottenham were losing in the Europa Conference League.

They face each other at the London Stadium on Sunday with West Ham knowing they can leapfrog their opponents in the Premier League with a win. 

'We've got a bit to go yet, before we should get all the plaudits and recognition,' said Moyes when asked about West Ham wanting to invade the Big Six.

'We've had one season at it. I need to try and get consistency at West Ham, I'd like to try and qualify for European football again. 

'There is a task, because there are so many good teams in the Premier League at the moment and Tottenham are one of them.

'So we have a lot to prove yet before we get lots of plaudits but the only plaudits I would give is to say that the players here are doing such a good job. There's a great spirit amongst them.

'They go into every game with a level of confidence and self belief that we think we can go and win. So from that point of view, we'll keep trying it and we'll keep trying to push on and get results.'

Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo made 11 changes to his team for their 1-0 defeat at Vitesse. Moyes fielded a strong West Ham side in their 3-0 win over Genk, by comparison, as they won their third consecutive group game.

The last side to do that in the Europa League was Sevilla in 2019-20, when they won the competition.

'I can't speak for Nuno,' Moyes said. 'I felt I want to continue to keep good momentum. With the club I want to try and challenge on all fronts. I felt that I was happy to play the players.

'Maybe the momentum. Maybe the regular football might just be better for them.

'Those teams like Tottenham have been in Europe much longer and more often than we have. So maybe they understand more than we do but at the moment I want my team to win in Europe and I want them to win in the Premier League and I'm trying my best to get that balance right.

'Nuno will have his own reasons but mine was to go and win.'

Moyes is likely to add to his squad in the January transfer window, saying he would love 'to find another Jesse Lingard' after the success of his loan spell last season.

West Ham finished sixth with Lingard's help, ahead of Tottenham and Arsenal.. 'If you get to finish above any of those teams, you're going to put yourself in a really, really good position,' Moyes said.

'So these are the games. We've started this period well. Tottenham come into it. We've got huge games coming up. But you know, what do we do? We've just got to keep our head down, get on with it and not think too deeply about it. Take on the next opponent. We've got a lot of belief in the camp.'

Michail Antonio was rested against Genk but is set to return to the starting line up against Tottenham.
