Southampton failed to make it two wins from two games after they drew 2-2 with Burnley in an entertaining, back-and-forth game with Premier League rivals Burnley.

Burnley are still seeking their first league win of the season, but will likely be pleased with the point they take back to Lancashire with them.

The Clarets took the lead inside 15 minutes when summer signing Maxwel Cornet headed home Matthew Lowton’s cross.

In fact, it was a game that highlighted both teams’ new transfers.

Tino Livramento, who signed for Southampton from Chelsea, hit the post before equalising for Saints shortly before half time with a header from Nathan Redmond’s corner. That made amends for him losing Cornet for Burnley’s opening goal.

A lot of Southampton’s goal scoring threat came down that right side, with Livramento displaying his limitless energy reserves once again, bombing up and down that wing and delivering crosses of consistent quality.

Saints were the better side for much of the first half and continued in that vein in the early stages of the second half.

That pressure paid off when Ibrahima Diallo cut out a sloppy pass from Burnley’s James Tarkowski and played in Armando Broja who coolly slotted the ball home to give Southampton the lead.

That made it two goals in two for the young Albania international who is on loan from Chelsea.

However, Burnley continued to battle away and were rewarded with their efforts.

Ashley Westwood’s harmless-looking lofted pass bounced its way to Cornet well outside the Southampton penalty area.

Ivory Coast international Cornet was able to spin Southampton’s Jan Bednarek to lash in a half volley on the turn with his left foot that caught Alex McCarthy out to ultimately hand Burnley a point.
