Longmont’s annual holiday parade is scheduled for December 11 this year, lining Main Street with winter holiday themed floats. Interested participants can now submit their applications to join the Parade of Lights. This year’s theme is Merry & Bright.

Floats must be enclosed, decorated and lit with their own power source, according to the application. Importantly, the Parade of Lights will only have one Santa Claus provided by the parade sponsors, so floats may not include a live Santa.

All parade entries are eligible for prizes and a panel of judges will make their selection before the start of the parade itself. Categories will be the Grand Marshal’s Award, Pioneer Award for best historical or cultural theme, Holiday Spirit Award for best use of lights, Harmony Award for best musical group and the Bright Horizon Award for best youth group. Floats will be judged for overall effect, presentation, beauty, creativity, workmanship and parade theme.

The parade application can be downloaded online but must be turned in at the St. Vrain Memorial Building at 700 Longs Peak Avenue with the appropriate application fee. Applications must be submitted by December 6 to be entered in the parade.
