Tuchel very happy with all-in intensity, effort, performance as Chelsea dominate Norwich City, 7-0

Premier League leaders Chelsea were certainly the favorites coming in to Saturday’s match against bottom of the table Norwich City, and while it’s been over a decade since bottom last beat top — Wolves 2-1 Manchester United in February 2011 — and while it’s been over a quarter century since Norwich last beat Chelsea (Norwich City 3-0 Chelsea in September 1994), taking the outcome for granted still would’ve been ill-advised.

Fortunately, outside of the very first minute, Chelsea didn’t take anything for granted. We scored early and often, then kept adding to the scoreline and adding to the visitors’ misery. It was our biggest win in nearly a decade, since the 8-0 against Aston Villa in December 2012. You almost had to feel sorry at the end for 10-man Norwich, but there’s no crying in baseball football.

It looked very easy for Chelsea today, and it was very easy for Chelsea today, meeting expectations in a dominant win. The upside of such games is very little — especially in contrast with the potential downside of a shock defeat — but we certainly found it, and found it in impressive fashion.

Tuchel was rightly pleased with all of it ... well, except that first minute.

“Let’s be honest, there’s no reason we should start in the second minute with pressing if we can do it in the first minute. When we put on the shirt, we want to do what we do at the very best level and from the start. I am very happy with the performance, very happy with the intensity, very happy with the effort we put into the game.

“It was the fourth consecutive game as favourites and I like how we approach these games. There is no judging and no holding back, we play all in. This I like a lot of it’s why we deserve these victories. It is key.”

“[But] I don’t want to get carried away too much because we played four times in a row as favourites. I like the way we approached these games. It’s a humble approach and it sets our standards. [We] have to keep going in this way and anything is possible.”

There are four more games before the next international break in which we will considered the clear favorites. And the more we win, the more we will be considered favorites in all our games. We will have to keep bringing the winning mentality, the killer mentality, and keep producing to the levels we know we can produce to. And if we do, like Tuchel says, anything is possible.
