El Clasico, Le Classique and the Derby d'Italia ALL take place on an all-star Sunday... and there's the small matter of Manchester United versus bitter rivals Liverpool and a London derby between West Ham and Spurs too!

  • Five fierce rivalries will be put to the test on Sunday right across Europe
  • West Ham host Tottenham and Liverpool travel to Man United in Premier League
  • El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid takes place at the Nou Camp
  • Le Classique (Marseille v PSG) and Derby d'Italia (Inter v Juventus) also on TV

Sometimes the fixture list just throws up Sundays like this - ones where you can sit in front of the TV for the best part of eight hours watching bitter rivals clash in historic matches across Europe.

From London to Madrid, Manchester to Milan and Marseille, five huge games have been scheduled to take place on the same day, with only two kick-offs clashing, so football fans will be able to take in most of the action.

WEST HAM v TOTTENHAM, 2pm

Show Player

Perhaps a gentle start in terms of the quality on show, but arguably the fiercest rivalry of the lot when it comes to the hatred between both sets of fans.

Spurs are always classed as north London and West Ham east, but there are less than 6 miles between the two stadiums, only slightly further than the distance between Tottenham's new stadium and Arsenal's Emirates.

It is at the London Stadium where the action will take place on Sunday, and there is little to choose between the two teams.

The bookies make West Ham slight favourites and they did finish one place and three points above Spurs last season, but the visitors are a point ahead going into the game and coming off the back of a morale-boosting win at Newcastle, when Harry Kane was back on the scoresheet.

BARCELONA v REAL MADRID, 3.15pm

For those of you who aren't West Ham or Tottenham fans and have access to Premier Sports or LaLiga TV, the temptation to switch over to El Clasico before the London derby ends will be too strong to resist.

It is, after all, the most watched club match in world football, with expected viewing figures of around 650million - and it will be the first with fans in attendance in over 18 months, so expect a raucous atmosphere.

That being said, both clubs are suffering at the moment. Having won eight of the 13 Champions League trophies on offer between 2006 and 2018, Spain's heavyweights have run into financial problems of late which are affecting results on the pitch, with Atletico Madrid winning LaLiga last year.

Even if it's not the footballing spectacle it once was when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were at their peak in either corner, it is not one to miss.

MANCHESTER UNITED v LIVERPOOL, 4.30pm

Only one match rivals El Clasico for global TV viewing figures - and the two will be competing directly for ratings come 4.30pm on Sunday.

Traditionally English football's biggest rivalry, the north west derby will be played in front of a crowd for the first time since January 2020, and that is sure to add to the spectacle.

Liverpool arrive at Old Trafford in fine form, sitting just one point and place off top spot, while United have stuttered badly of late, winning just three of their last eight matches in all competitions - all courtesy of late goals - to pile the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

A heavy defeat on Sunday would be hard for the manager to bounce back from, though he'll fancy his chances with Cristiano Ronaldo in his side.

INTER MILAN v JUVENTUS, 7.45pm

With United v Liverpool done in time for dinner, you'll have an hour or so to prepare for Sunday's late European double header.

First up it's the Derby d'Italia from the San Siro. Much like El Clasico, this rivalry was born more out of the success of both sides and rivalry between the cities, rather than a close proximity to one another - Milan and Turin are separated by 78 miles.

On the pitch, the rivalry is enjoying a renaissance with Inter winning their first Serie A title in 10 years last season, preventing Juventus from winning their 10th in a row.

In third and seventh place respectively, both sides are well off the blistering pace set by Napoli this season and cannot afford another defeat.

MARSEILLE v PSG, 7.45pm

BT Sport subscribers have the option of flicking between the Derby d'Italia and France's Le Classique, which both kick off at the same time on Sunday night.

With PSG only formed in 1970, this rivalry did not escalate until the late 1980s, but it is now the undisputed No 1 game in Ligue 1 when the clubs from France's two largest cities collide. While we hope to see none of the crowd trouble which has marred French football of late, we can expect an explosive atmosphere at Stade Velodrome.

On paper, it's almost a no-contest, with PSG arriving in town with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, to more than make up for the expected injury absence of Neymar. Marseille's biggest names are former Premier League stars Matteo Guendouzi and Dimitri Payet.

PSG head into the match 10 points clear of Marseille, but Jorge Sampaoli's side do have a game in hand. Win on Sunday night, then France might just have a title race on their hands. Lose, and it's all but over already.
