EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Men’s Soccer was blanked, 2-0, by 10th-ranked Maryville University to open a two-match homestand Friday night at Strassweg Field. The Eagles move to 5-8-0 overall and 4-7-0 in the GLVC, while the Saints are to 11-2-3, 9-2-1 GLVC, after tonight’s action.

USI had the early momentum with a near miss by senior forward Graham Miller (Owensboro, Kentucky) in the first four minutes. The Saints kicked into gear and took the 1-0 lead at 15:56, holding the one goal advantage through the break.

In the second half, the Eagles and the Saints battled back and forth across the field with Maryville having the lead in time of possession. USI, which was outshot 7-5 in the final 45, had a great chance to score with 18:58 to play when freshman defender Mical Hardtman (Bermuda) narrowly missed a bicycle kick from 10 yards out.

The Saints would seal the 2-0 victory with the final tally of the match at 83:04. USI would have two more tries in the final six minutes, including a shot off the left post by sophomore forward Zach Barton (St. Louis, Missouri), before losing its fourth in a row.

UPCOMING FOR THE EAGLES:
USI completes the 2021 regular home schedule Sunday when Missouri University of Science & Technology comes to Strassweg Field. The Eagles will celebrate Senior Day prior to Sunday’s match. Six seniors will be honored at 11:30 a.m. prior to the match.

Missouri S&T start tonight’s action with a 5-6-1 mark, 4-5-1 GLVC, when it visits the University of Indianapolis. The Miners play the Greyhounds in the middle of a six-match winless streak.

The Miners lead the all-time series with Missouri S&T, 15-13-1, but USI has won the last four meetings. The Eagles took last season’s match-up in Rolla, 2-0.
