PINELLAS PARK, FL. – On Saturday at approximately 12:45 AM, the Pinellas Park Police Department responded to Lake Allen Dr and 118th Ave for a single-vehicle crash.
Once on the scene, fire department personnel was working to extricate a female driver from the vehicle. The female driver, 24-years-old from Riverview, was later transported to a local hospital but died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators determined the Riverview woman failed to negotiate a curve on 118th Ave, directly west of Lake Allen Dr. The vehicle left the roadway striking a tree along the 118th Ave right-of-way. No other vehicles were involved in this crash and the exact causation is under investigation.
While investigators were on the first crash scene, a second collision occurred on the US Highway 19 northbound entrance ramp from Bryan Dairy Rd.
This location is within the construction area and the entrance ramp is a single-lane roadway onto US Highway 19 N. The entrance ramp is lined with temporary concrete barriers on both sides of the road.
Investigators determined a motorcycle was traveling south on the northbound entrance ramp. At the same time, a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling the north on the northbound entrance ramp.
A head-on collision occurred, causing the motorcycle rider to be ejected from the bike and later transported to a local hospital. A witness corroborated that the motorcycle was traveling in the wrong direction before the collision.
The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta, Hannah Kiousis, 23, Saftey Harbor, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI. Kiousis was transported to the Pinellas County Jail and booked for misdemeanor DUI.
The motorcycle operator, a 22-year-old man from Port Richey, was transported to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.
