  2. 'For 30 minutes they were better than us'

    FT: Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to Sky Sports: "It's really good because I knew which team we face today.

"It was a good lesson, for 30 minutes they were better than us. This game must be played with the ball.

"We suffered and for the future we'll be good.

"This is a huge victory for us. [To win here] is a big compliment for the team.

"We won the game because we have good players. Don't ask me too much about the decisions of the managers.

"They are aggressive and when they have the ball they know what they have to do. They have all the mechanisms of a big team.

"They have courage. I admire them for that. They play like a top four or five team.

"I like Phil [Foden], he knows how to play football. We can have an extra man in the positions we want to play. He has the quality to do that.

"He scored two goals and he could have scored more. He'll improve."

  3. Post update

    Brighton 1-4 Man City

Riyad Mahrez has scored more goals in all competitions than any other Manchester City player so far in 2021 (16).

  4. 'Second half response fantastic'

    Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter, speaking to MOTD: "It was a tough one for us. They were fantastic and you have to credit them for the way they played.

"I thought we were quite good and then conceded a bit of a soft goal. We suffered a bit in the first half but the second half response was fantastic. I am really pleased, I am not really pleased we lost a game of football but performance-wise I am happy.

"Our players were amazing. Fantastic. I've no complaints with the result. Manchester City were better than us, deserved with the win but very pleased with our performance going forward."

  5. 'Our performance was something to be proud of'

    Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter to Sky Sports: "Fantastic performance wise, so proud of the players, playing against a top team that deserved to win, but the players gave everything.

"Of course it's disappointing to lose. We have to say Manchester City were better but our performance was something to be proud of.

"We gave a cheap goal away, the first goal, and against this quality opposition it can be difficult.

"We made a couple of errors that got punished but the players didn't feel sorry for themselves and up to the 85th minute they were fantastic. We ran out of steam a little but but we will take a lot from this game."

On the first goal: "I've not seen it back, but it is just one of those things. It wasn't the best goal from our perspective but it happens."

On whether this result has dented their confidence: "It's not dented at all. I can't be prouder of the team. It's not easy playing this type of opposition."

  8. 'I had to tell him it nicked off me'

    Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Phil Foden to BBC Sport: "We enjoyed the first half more than the second half. We were really good in the first half and a bit poor in the second.

"In the end we got the result.

"I had to tell him [Gabriel Jesus] that it nicked off me [for Foden's second goal], he hadn't realised. A goal is a goal. Sometimes if you're in the right place you get that bit of luck.

"We're not a team who usually sit back but they put us on the back foot in the second half. We got the result. That's the main thing.

"I don't know where my best position is. I'm enjoying wherever I play, learning new posiitons.

"We're on a good run of form. We're working so hard in training to get things right."

  9. 'On another day I could have scored three'

    FT: Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City winger Phil Foden to Sky Sports: "I thought from the start we looked very good in possession and controlled the game.

"Sometimes when you are 3-0 up you drop your level a bit. We are a bit disappointed with the second half but we dug in and only conceded one which is good."

On his new role in the side: "I'm enjoying it, I can drop deep and get the ball and pick the passes off. It's a new role for me and I can say I'm really enjoying it. It changes it game to game. Sometimes I stay higher than normal, but this game they went man-to-man so I dropped a bit deeper and I thought we used the extra man well.

"We are on a good run of form, but we just want to keep going now for the next games and keep that level.

"On another day I could have scored three, but the main thing is the result and I'm just happy we got it today."

  10. 'Against this team it is not over at 3-0'

    Brighton 1-4 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to MOTD: "It was different but it is normal. I know what it means coming here against this team, against this manager and this stadium and winning here. Big compliments after they change in the second half they played really good.

"It is a good lesson that in football it must be played with the ball and when you don't have it you suffer. They have a good process where they build with the keeper, they had one more man in the middle, they had movements in front. It is so hard to play against for 90 minutes.

"Against another opponent the game would be over (at 3-0), against this team it is not over."

On Phil Foden: "He can play left winger is a good position and right winger is a good position. Phil is a player who can pay in different positions but especially up front because he has the quality the precision. He had many chances to score in recent games but he is young and will keep improving."

BeagleBabeInRhyl: As a Man Utd fan, if I had to pick either Man City or Liverpool I would have to go for the Blues. Liverpool don't have one world-class midfielder. They are one good defender and an excellent strike force.

    Brighton 1-4 Man City
