If you’re someone who opts for a fresh turkey during the holidays, be ready to call ahead, especially this year with supply shortages, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“That window is a short window,” says Dean Frankenfield, co-owner of Godshall’s Poultry in the Reading Terminal Market.

Fresh turkeys also have to be a last minute pickup, sometimes on Thanksgiving Eve or the morning of.

Here are two fresh turkey pickups in Delaware County.

Martindale’s Natural Market

Martindale’s in the Olde Sproul Shopping Village at 1172 Baltimore Pike in Springfield stocks a limited supply of fresh turkeys from Koch’s Farms for Thanksgiving.

Call early to get the size you want. This year, Martindale’s has ordered a larger quantity of smaller turkeys.

Linvilla Orchards

Call ahead to reserve a fresh turkey at Linvilla. The orchard sources its birds, from 10 to 30 pounds, from a Chester County farm.  The fresh turkeys are available for pickup as late as the morning of Thanksgiving.

Other holiday delicacies and produce are available in the farm market, including a wide selection of pies.

Linvilla Orchards is located at 137 W. Knowlton Road in Media.
