Local youth football coach, former Mill Creek assistant coach arrested

A youth football coach and a former assistant coach for a local high school were arrested Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, and are facing charges related to a reported altercation at a local park.

William Brent Voyles, 43, was arrested and charged with battery at Duncan Creek Park in Dacula. He was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on Thursday night and released early Friday morning on a $1,300 bond.

Voyles was recognized in an Oct. 10, 2021, Facebook post as head coach of the eighth grade Mill Creek Hawks football team, part of the Mill Creek Athletic Association.

Kelsey Alexander Griffin, 27, was arrested and charged with simple battery and failure to appear from an outstanding warrant. He was booked into the jail Thursday night and released early Friday morning on a $1,300 bond.

Griffin is a 2013 graduate of Mill Creek High School who returned as an assistant defensive line coach. The 6-foot-2, 295-pound defensive tackle was a standout player for the Hawks who received national attention. After receiving offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee, Griffin signed with the University of South Carolina in 2012 and played with the Gamecocks through 2016. Mill Creek High School’s website no longer lists Griffin on their coaching staff.

This is a developing story and updates will be provided as they become available.
