Wear Yellow Proudly Announces Inaugural In-Person Concert ‘Songs to the Moon’

By Chris Ruel

Wear Yellow Proudly (WYP), an arts and advocacy initiative founded to counter anti-Asian sentiment in the pandemic’s wake, has announced its first in-person concert, “Songs to the Moon.” The concert is set to take place on Oct. 30, 2021, at The Dimenna Center for Classical Music in New York City.

The concert will feature folk songs from China, the Philippines, and America. Performers include soprano Helen Zhibing Huang, bass-baritone Enrico Lagasca, pianist Jeremy Chan, and visual artist Duke Winn.

In a press release put out by WYP, Huang said, “Even though attacks of Asian elders and xenophobia towards Asians are no longer a hot topic, we want to dedicate these folk songs to Asian elders across the country, with the hope of bringing up feelings of nostalgia and comfort.”

Throughout the pandemic, WYP has been creating virtual arts content to raise cultural awareness and foster activism.

Concert tickets are free and can be reserved online or at the door.
