Titans has officially wrapped its third season, after we spent the last couple months watching the superhero drama get even darker than ever before (a difficult feat, considering the track record of its previous two seasons). But Gotham City tends to have that effect: The third season saw the Titans relocate to the most unfortunate, villain-ridden city around, and grapple with one shocking betrayal and devastating loss after another — and, of course, another relentless villain bent on destroying them.

Following the third season’s final episode, you must be wondering where the Titans are headed now. Will Titans return for Season 4? What did that finale mean for the future of one of TV’s best superhero found families? Here’s everything we know about what’s in store for Titans.

Titans Season 3 Ending Explained

SPOILERS — Titled “Purple Rain,” the episode follows the Titans as they finally join forces to stop Scarecrow (a.k.a. Jonathan Crane, played by Vincent Kartheiser) from detonating bombs of toxic gas planted across the city. Dick (Brenton Thwaites), Gar (Ryan Potter), and Tim (Jay Lycurgo) head to Scarecrow’s home base at Wayne Manor to destroy the detonation system. Kori (Anna Diop), Rachel (Teagan Croft), Donna (Conor Leslie), Conner (Joshua Orpin), and Blackfire (Damaris Lewis) head to the Lazarus Pit to use its water to cure those in the city who’d already been poisoned by the toxin.

The Titans get some help from unexpected sources along the way: With the GCPD in shambles, Barbara Gordon discovers that A.R.G.U.S. was there all along, led by Margarita Vee. Jason (Curran Walters), who became Red Hood with the help of Crane, realizing the error of his ways, breaks away from Crane, and is (sort of) redeemed: He serves a key role in helping the Titans infiltrate Wayne Manor.

Luckily, the team is successful in saving Gotham: We see Kory’s powers (though different from her original ones) return, allowing her to release the Lazarus Pit’s waters over the city. The team at Wayne Manor (surprisingly easily) apprehend Crane, disable the bombs, and throw him back into Arkham Asylum. In an ironic form of retribution, Rachel infects him with the nightmares she absorbed from the Lazarus Pit. Fear, once Scarecrow’s weapon, will plague him for the rest of his life.

With their problems in Gotham wrapped up, the team — sans Donna, Blackfire, and Jason, but with the addition of Tim — decide to take a road trip back to San Francisco, hopefully to recover and reconnect after a season spent mostly apart.

Who Is In The Cast of Titans Season 4?

We’ve seen some Titans members come and go over the past couple seasons, but the core four — Brendon Thwaites’ Dick Grayson, Anna Diop’s Koriand’r, Ryan Potter’s Gar, and Teagan Croft’s Rachel — are finally back together again come the end of season 3. And you’re in luck: it seems they will be returning for season 4, which was confirmed at DC’s FanDome event earlier in October. Though an official cast list hasn’t been revealed, based on the way season 3 ended, it looks like Joshua Orpin’s Connor/Superboy and Jay Lycurgo’s Tim Drake will also be on season 4’s roster.

A few members’ fates are uncertain: Conor Leslie’s Donna Troy tells Dick that she will not be rejoining the Titans on the West Coast in the finale, and is approached by Vee (Karen Robinson) about possibly working with A.R.G.U.S., so they both could remain in Gotham. Barbara Gordon (Savannah Welch) decides to remain in Gotham, despite her and Dick’s budding romance. Damaris Lewis’ Blackfire, who leaves Earth to claim the throne of her home planet of Tamaran, may or may not return.

Though his future is unclear, Curran Walter’s Jason Todd has seemingly been confirmed to come back. We saw him tell Iain Glen’s Bruce Wayne (who was absent for most of the finale, and may possibly return next season) of his decision part ways with Gotham and the Titans. However, Red Hood won’t be leaving the Titans universe for good, according to a Tweet from Walters. But whether “Redhood isn’t going anywhere” means he will remain on Titans or perhaps get his own spinoff is up for debate.

When will Titans Season 4 premiere on HBO Max?

Though an official date hasn’t been released, we could be looking at a possible late 2022 release date. Titans season 2 aired in 2019, almost a year after its first season premiered. Season 3, however, was delayed a bit longer due to Covid-19, which led to a two year-long gap between seasons. Provided there are no setbacks, hopefully this time next year the Titan’s will be gracing our screens.

What might happen in Titans Season 4?

Titans season 3 had us on the edge of our seat week after week, but the finale seems to end on a cliffhanger-less note. Headed back to San Francisco, the next season will likely see the Titans reconnecting and relearning how to work together, especially after so much time apart.

The finale also hints at Tim Drake eventually taking on the mantle of Robin (after some training with the Titans, of course) as per the DC comics. Further, the episode expanded the Titans universe quite a bit: along with the introduction of A.R.G.U.S, which we could possibly see more of Donna teams up with them, Vee name-dropped Roy Harper (who was mentioned briefly last season). It wouldn’t be out of the question to expect Harper crossing paths with the Titans.

Unlike the other season finales, season 3 leaves us with no clue as to the future villain. If enough time passes between season 3 and 4, we could see Blackfire become the Titans’ adversary like she does in the comics, though it doesn’t make much sense given the positive note she left Starfire and the rest of the team on. Maybe their adversary will be Ra’s al Ghul: Given the introduction of the Lazarus Pit, his name being mentioned more than once, and Dick’s resurrection, it’s entirely possible he’ll make an appearance. We’ve come to expect the unexpected on Titans, so never say never.
