Riverside police officers dispatched to 3rd and Vine streets on Sept. 17 after receiving a report of a person stabbed near the intersection.

Officials later identified the victim, found stabbed in the neck, as 34-year-old Ruben Delapaz. Police said he died at the hospital.

Investigators accused Ray Salcido, 36, of killing Delapaz and say he traveled to Northern California after the stabbing. Police said Salcido was already wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.

Salcido was arrested in Lodi in San Joaquin County and extradited back to Riverside County where he was booked last Friday and held without bond.

Investigators did not elaborate on how they connected Delapaz's death to Salcido but said forensic investigators helped.

The Riverside County District Attorney’s office filed first-degree murder charges against Delapaz.
