This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships: Presented by Talking Stick Resort. Sure, it’s about polo and the stately polo ponies, but the momentous annual event also includes the world’s most celebrated men and women polo players, luxury fashion, live performances, support for charity, exotic cars, champagne, canine couture, shopping and more insanely fun hats than you could possibly imagine. All the excitement happens tomorrow, Saturday, October 23.

The events of the day revolve around four polo matches and the appearance of America’s No. 1 polo player, Nic Roldan from the Aspen Valley Polo Club, who has been out to the Polo Championships at Westworld several times. “I’ve done numerous championships all over the world, but this is a fun one,” says Roldan. “Scottsdale is a really fun place and the fans are amazing, so we’re excited!” Roldan’s team is facing off against La Mariposa-Argentina Polo Club at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 23. This year marks the first time La Mariposa-Argentina Polo Club has played in Scottsdale.

As the sport of polo continues to gain popularity with the general public and potential players, Roldan addresses the increased interest. “Events like this definitely help and they definitely put us on a map that gives a more accessible feel to polo,” says Roldan. “There’s always been a stigma to polo that it’s only played by the elite and the royals, but it’s changing and it should change. It’s a great spectator sport and anyone can play if they want. There are clubs and academies all over the world where people can play, and we’re heading in the right direction.”

Arizona’s top female polo player and the player coordinator for the Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships, Natalie Grancharov Camacho is also returning this year in a leading role and embraces the chance to be part of the tenth anniversary. “It’s really cool because when we first started, it was such a small event with maybe 2,000 people,” says Camacho. “We’re looking at upwards of 10,000 people now… We have people coming from essentially all over the world – and that have played all over the world to join us in the event. So, it’s really cool and I’m happy to be here and to be a part of it for 10 years.”

The four fast paced and engaging polo matches being played will be Arizona Polo Club vs. Santa Fe Polo Club, Grand Champions Polo Club vs. Bogota Polo Team, the featured match of former champs Aspen Valley Polo Club vs. La Mariposa-Argentina Polo Club and the Jet Set Women’s All-Star Polo Team vs. Wine Valley Polo Club.

Another highlight of the day is The World’s “Longest” Fashion Show, produced by Phoenix Fashion Week. Models strut their stuff in the hottest polo-inspired attire down and around the polo field at 11:55 a.m. Showcased fashions also include vintage-inspired and men’s ready-to-wear clothing line, Being Dapper and luxury custom line, House of Donaldson, both orchestrated by designer JC Donaldson.

Of course, you can get your drink on with bottles of bubbles at the VIP tent tables and The Bubbly Bar, brews at The Morning Beer Festival and classic cocktails by Ketel One and Don Julio. On-site concessions and food trucks, plus catering by M Culinary in the Molina Fine Jewelers Drivers & Players VIP Lounge will provide plenty of food throughout the day.
