A Redding Police Department car chase ended Friday afternoon with a two cars collision, an injured officer, and two suspects taken into custody.
Lieutenant Danny Smetak told KRCR officers were dispatched to the area of Lavender and Salmon Berry around 11:17 a.m. on a call about two unconscious people in a car. When the officers arrived at the scene they found the two individuals were unconscious but armed with knives.
The officers tried to talk with the people in the vehicle when they resisted arrest and fled the scene, injuring one of the officers in the process.
Smetak said the suspects then fled through the McConnell Foundation and attempted to hit people walking on the sidewalk as they drove through. There were also multiple gates and locations the suspects drove and RPD is still working to tally a total.
Officers were able to intervene before the intersection of Shasta View Drive and Palacio, but Smetak said that did not work, so the individuals drove into the intersection and collided with a white Ford truck.
They fled on foot after the collision, but RPD has since apprehended them and taken them into custody.
The officer had mild to moderate injuries but is expected to be okay. Smetak said cleaning up the intersection could take about another hour.
