You never really know what you’re going to get from My Morning Jacket, and today the Jim James-fronted indie/rock/psychedelia band returned with a new self-titled album, the first new MMJ record since 2015’s Grammy-nominated The Waterfall.

An attempt at achieving musical catharsis amid a world in tumult, My Morning Jacket was characterized like this by James in a statement:

“I hope this album brings people a lot of joy and relief, especially since we’ve all been cooped up for so long. I know that feeling you get from driving around blasting music you love, or even lying in bed and crying to the music you love. The fact that we’re able to be a part of people’s lives in that way is so magical to us, and it feels really good that we’re still around to keep doing that.”

On the other side of the album’s expressive tones is “Regularly Scheduled Programming”:

The end result is another intriguing and at times unexpectedly adventurous album from a band that consistently pushes the envelope further. Stream it below.
